Unnamed Location on PCT to Mile 201.14 Campsite, CA

What a cold and windy night that was. The wind blew so constant last night that it sounded like we were camping in a stream. We got up before 6:30 and was on our way by 7:50. No dilly dallying around this morning. We wanted to get off that saddle and find warmer temperatures. As promised, here is a picture of our tent that I took this morning.  Notice the tarp is full of wind!

Beautiful site, but windy.

So off we went in a hurry for a day that is promised to bring us down below 4000 feet from 8000 feet. After about 1.5 miles we passed through this sign as we left Mt. San Jacinto Wilderness Area. I was a little sad because I knew that as we decended we would be back into the desert and I would miss the mountains, but there are a lot more mountains to come.

Thanks for the beauty.

We then got a view of where we were headed. Way down there is Interstate 10. Tomorrow we will be crossing it. From where this picture was taken the distance to I-10 is 19 miles by trial, but only 7.6 miles as a crow flies with an altitude drop of 6,409 feet.

I-10 way down there.

Check out this cool picture of weather forming over the valley below.

And a little further down the trail, as promised, we left the mountains behind and began seeing signs of the desert.

Along with some new desert flowers that we haven't seen before.

All day we were able to look up at Mt.

San Jacinto which we summited yesterday.

Awesome clouds formed over Mt. San Jacinto.

Just after lunch there were 2 other hikers catching up to us (something we are quite used to) so we pulled off the trail behind some rocks to block the wind. The hikers (In the Weeds and Mars Rover) wound up being two guys we met in Idyllwild the other day. We started to chat and then In the Weeds looked at me and said there was a rattlesnake just behind me on the rock. I jump and he said, "Rad," and Mars Rover pushed me out of the way to get a picture. My first experiance with a rattlesnake...and I hope my last. Here is a picture of Mars Rover and In the Weeds. By the way, they were both hiking solo and met over a week ago on the trail. It winds up they are both from Brooklyn and decided to continue the hike together.

Oh! Look what milestone we made it to today!  200 miles!!

200 in stone.

Proof we are standing at mile 200 on the PCT.

As we were decending down into the valley all day we also got a view of a wind farm. It winds up that this is one of the windiest parts of the PCT.

Speaking about wind. The wind is really whipping our tent around. Tonight will be a good night to test how well it can withstand wind. Tonight's campsite puts our tent in the shadow of Mt. San Jacinto.  How cool is that?!?

Awesome shot of Mt. San Jacinto and our campsite for the night.
