Hurkey Creek Campground to Idyllwild

It was way cold last night. We tried to use just a sheet and blanket, but we both woke up freezing so climbed into out sleeping bags...much better.

I woke around 8:00 AM and figured I could start hiking by 9:15 AM. This should be possible since all I have to do is eat breakfast and pack my bag since Tim is going to break camp and move up to Idyllwild. Of course that didn't happen and I wound up getting on the trail by 9:45 AM.

Today I only have 8 miles to hike. I was pretty anxious to get to Idyllwild as soon as I can knowing that Tim was meeting me there in a cabin.

The trail instantly started climbing. That is pretty much how the entire day will be...climbing, climbing, climbing until the last 1.5 miles where I drop into town. The good news is that the scenery was beautiful.

The mountain bike trail that I started on ended and I had to turn onto an unused dirt road. But, the beauty remained.

Adtrr making it to the top of the road the burnt out forest came into view. This is why the trail is closed in this area from a fire in 2014. It's amazing how far the forest has come since the fire. The view of dead, burned trees and the new growth is so cool.

i really pushes myself today. I didn't even stop for lunch. I figured if I get to town early I can have lunch with Tim. Finally after hiking 6.5 miles in 2 hours 15 minutes I made it to the pavement of Idyllwild. Now I just have 1.5 miles straight down to the city center.

Even the walk through town was beautiful.

I finally made it to town. I sure look tired.

Finally I made it to our home for the next 2 nights. Tim was surprised how fast I arrived there. He wasn't expecting me for another 2 hours. All in all I hiked 8 miles in 3 hours and most of it was uphill. Not bad.

After dropping my gear and taking a shower we were out of the cabin abs walking to Idyllwild Pizza
where we gobbled up a large pie and a pitcher of beer.

I am so deserving.
After the pizza we went to a wine and beer bar and had a couple of pints of amazing beer.

With full bellies we walked back to the cabin and enjoyed an evening of a wood-burning fireplace and movies on tv. A perfect end to a wonderful day.
