Trail Angel Mike Herrera's House to Unpaved Tule Canyon Truck Trail
The wind wasn't as bad as expected last night. When we pitched the tent it was really windy, but it seemed to calm down after 9:00 PM. The road we pitched on was pretty flat, so I had a good night sleep. Barbra said she had trouble sleeping, but felt OK.
We got out of the tent and went down to where all the other hikers were and it was just in time for breakfast...pancakes, eggs, and potatoes. It is just incredible what these trail angels do for hikers.

After breakfast we unpitched the tent and packed up our bags and left. Mike has a giant water tower on his property that we filtered water out of and finally hit the trail at 9:40 AM. Kind of a late start, but we only have 10 miles to hike since we hiked an extra 3 miles yesterday. Here we are ready to start out the day:
I am back. While I was typing this blog entry there was a huge windstorm that forces me to stop blogging and zip into my sleeping bag to avoid the dust storm inside the tent. It is now the end of the next day and I am now finishing yesterday's blog.
The sign of the day was taken when we first started out the day. I have no idea why I care where the Riverside county line is.

We left Mike's house and immediately started going up. It seems that all days start up, which I actually like since it warms up the body and gets you moving and it doesn't hurt the knees and feet too much.
Just when we thought all was good, the trail started down and then it continued going down. As a matter of fact, today we loss almost 2,500 feet. However, the views kept our mind off our feet and on the beauty of the trail.

We stopped at noon for lunch in a comfy dry river bed. The sand was soft like a beach and the weather was just perfect. Since we had a shortish day of only 9 miles we decided we could take a longer lunch break so stayed there for 1.5 glorious hours.
After lunch we had less than 5 miles to go, so we relaxed the pace some abs enjoyed more mountain scenery.
Within 1/2 mile of our stop for the night we were climbing out of a stream crossing and I spotted the moon above this cool, tall, pointy plant thing. You may have to squint, but the moon is just above the plant.
Finally, around 4:00 PM we arrived at our campsite. We set up camp and started cooking dinner when Tim actually showed up. He was able to find the jeep road that we were camping by. There was actually a gate blocking the road about 1/2 mile away. So he had to walk in and couldn't stay for the night, but it was cool to see him even for the short amount of time.
After Tim left we finished up dinner and the wind started picking up so we went into the tents early. I stared working on this blog and the winds continued to pick up. This is when I stopped blogging and hid inside the sleeping bag.
