Paved Highway 89 to Campsite at Upper Jake Spring

I woke up to Share Bear's alarm at 6:00 AM this morning feeling really bad. My throat hurt like a lot. I noticed Share Bear turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. Awesome...I could really use more sleep. Everyone woke up after 8:00 AM and I still felt crappy. Taking a day off isn't really an option unless I am really really sick which I am not, so we all got up with the intention of hiking today.

We packed up our stuff, went to breakfast, and was back to the trailhead before 1:00 PM.

Ready to hike.
Tim hikes the 1 mile with us to the Burney Falls trail. It was intended that we all hike down to check out the falls. The way I was feeling, I didn't want to hike any more than I had to. Brad and Share Bear was ok missing it, but Tim said he was going to check it out. We said goodbye to him till Monday morning when he will meet us on the trail to resupply us, and then we continued on the trail.

In just under 3 miles we arrived at Lake Britton Dam the the PCT goes across:

After the dam the trail was beautiful. It was really hot and the trail climbed, but the view was great.

Beautiful trail.
With this sore throat and slight cough the climbing is really hard. I took many breaks along the way. When we arrived at Rock Creek it was determined that we would take a longer break here. It was also determined that we would only hike  10 miles today since I was not feeling well.

Rock Creek was a great place to take a break. We hung out under the bridge that provided shade. We put our feet in the water an splashed our face with the cold water. We hung out and talked with Lap Shwe for a while and then took off.

The last 3.30 miles to our camp was not easy. It was a steady climb that hurt my throat, but up I climbed.

We finally made it to our campsite before 7:00 PM and had our tents set up by 7:30 PM. Oh...this cool, old PCT sign is right by our campsite:

I cooked and ate dinner quickly to escape the mosquitoes and was in my tent just after 8:00 PM. Not feeling well I can use the extra sleep tonight, so I'm glad it was an early night.

Tomorrow we plan on hiking 20 miles, so I hope I wake up somewhat better or else it will be a very hard day. Until tomorrow...
